We are shocked and upset by reports on the alleged arsenic poisoning of Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Whilst under police custody in September last year, he was assaulted. Now, whilst in prison he is alleged to have been poisoned. It is most disturbing to know that the relevant authorities cannot even ensure the safety and security of a person under their security.
We demand that Anwar be given the right to bail, especially now when his life is at stake. We must consider the fact that he has not exhausted all avenues to appeal against his conviction. He should not be deprived of his basic right as a citizen of this country.
In light of the gravity of the situation, an independent inquiry and investigation must be immediately conducted by a Royal Commission and not by any other authority. We will not accept any more excuses and delays, similar to that during the assault episode.
The basic rights of every human under the principles of democracy must be upheld at all times for every citizen of this country. Anwar Ibrahim is one and as fellow citizens, we must all stand for one another.
We believe that the majority of Malaysians fully agree and support the
above demands.
